Theatrical play with participants from Project “Code Success”
A theatrical play recreated Shakespeare’s time and spirit at neighbourhood “Iztok” on 27 April. The event was part of project “Code Success” – English for youngsters at a disadvantage”, funded by Foundation “Trust for Social Achievement” and supported by “America for Bulgaria” Foundation and the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria.
Dialogues from the great Shakespeare’s drama “Romeo and Juliet”, directed in a humorous Roma version, rejoiced the audience during the performance. The young actors, who were on stage for the first time in their lives, were very excited. They showed notable talent, inspiration, and also responsibility for their first theatrical assignment. Programme “Code Success” works with youngsters at a disadvantage at the age of 13 to 20. They get a training in English in addition to their compulsory education at school. The programme utilises language teaching with the aim to help youngsters from excluded and isolated communities enrich their knowledge of the world, democratic values, and cultures and form civic engagement through voluntary and public activities.
Around 80 children from neighbourhood “Iztok” in Pazardzhik and Pazardzhik region get a training in English. Apart from the language training the project includes sessions for personal development and social engagement and language camps for the youngsters.
Fund - IGA coordinates the project in Pazardzhik region.
