First conference for presenting a school project in Sofia
First conference for presenting Project “School for Ambitions – 2” was held on 8th December at 14:00 o’clock at 67th primary school “Vasil Drumev”, Sofia, Vazrazhdane district. The project is a logical continuation of the partnership between Crime Prevention Fund – IGA and 67th primary school “Vasil Drumev” – Sofia, after the conduction of project “School for Ambitions” in the period 2012-2014.
The conference was attended by representatives of Sofia Capital Municipality, Vazrazhdane district - a project partner, Regional Bureau of Education – Sofia, teachers, representatives of non-governmental organizations, representatives of the project team, representatives of 67th primary school “Vasil Drumev”, the chairperson of School Board Association at 67th primary school “Vasil Drumev”, and media.
Yanka Takeva, the chairperson of the Syndicate of Bulgarian Teachers, sent a welcome address to the team of the project as well as to the school.
The main goal of the project is to help Roma children living in Vazrazhdane district to develop themselves as complete citizens and to achieve a successful social and professional realization in society. The project also has three specific aims:
- To identify and motivate Roma children and their families to participate in the educational process;
- To improve the children’s educational integration through activities compensating for gaps in their education and through additional Bulgarian language classes;
- To overcome the negative societal attitudes towards the Roma ethnos through mutual intercultural activities and initiatives, information campaign among the parents and the local community, and promotion of the cultural identity of the Roma ethnos.
The Project has been funded by Operative Programme “Science and Education for Intelligent Growth” and co-funded by the European Union through the European Structural and Investment Funds.
