WITHOUT CIGARETTES! – initiative by CSRI and Monitored Care Unit – Plovdiv

At the beginning of June an interactive health-informative discussion related to the World No Tobacco Day took place in CSRI. The event was initiated by the team of CSRI and Monitored Care Unit in partnership with Regional Health Inspectorate – Plovdiv. It had four parts: Multimedia presentation of the major risks when using tobacco products, risks in the child’s developing organism, care for people’s health and forms of prevention, Discussion with young people; Additionally – using a breathing apparatus to measure the levels of carbon monoxide which had been exhalated in the air of active and passive smokers; Discussion in an informal environment. The topic was presented by V. Nacheva – expert at Regional Health Inspectorate, Plovdiv. Lyuben Ivanov (Manager of CSRI and Monitored Care Unit) was moderator of the panels. Children and young people from CSRI and Monitored Care Unit took part in the event as well as from the partnering social services: Crisis Centre for Children with Deviant Behaviour, Home for Children Deprived of Parental Care at Complex for Social Services “Olga Skobeleva”, Family Type Accommodation Centre ‘Mother Teresa”, and Family Type Accommodation Centre “Child’s House” at Complex for Social Services for Children and Families.

Special guests at the event were Nina Bankova and Siana Kokova – experts in Directorate “Social Policy” at Plovdiv Municipality, Tanya Ivanova – secretary at Local Commission Combating Human Trafficking, and Velichko Rusev – Manager at Crisis Centre, Atanaska Bukleva – Manager at Centre for Social Rehabilitation and Integration of Former Offenders and People with a Refugee Status.

The motto of the event was: Informing children in the best form of prevention!

CSRI and Monitored Care Unit for Social Services have been delegated by the state activity of Plovdiv Municipality and managed and administered by Crime Prevention Fund – IGA.
