Earlier this week in the conference hall of the State Psychiatric Hospital – Pazardzhik, IGA Fund organized a workshop. The meeting was initiated by the organization’s team which works with the IDUs in the region within the “Prevention and control of HIV/AIDS” programme by the Ministry of Health (MH).

Since October last year, at the State Psychiatric Hospital the Methadone programme has been introduced and applied. It is funded by the Global Fund for Fighting AIDS, TB and malaria – donor for MH programme. The team from IGA and the team of the Methadone Programme worked in close cooperation. A clear mechanism of interaction was created regarding the motivation and preparation of the treatment of drug users in the region.

The goal of the workshop is to present the results of the work of both teams and to   discuss the mechanisms of interaction between local authorities in the region of Pazardzhik.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Regional Health Inspection Office (RHIO), the Police Department, the Probation Office, prison, Social Assistance Directorate and NGOs.

The RHIO introduced a brief overview of the spreading of blood transferred diseases and STDs in the region.
