Objectives of the project:
Overall objective: to increase the awareness and sensitivity about the life of inmates inside prison, and to draw public involvement with view to their inevitable return to society.
Specific objective:
- To organize and implement in 6 large Bulgarian cities public debates staged at exhibitions of Sofia Prison photographs
- To raise awareness and provoke broader engagement and involvement by disseminating information and promotion materials and building partnerships with the media

“Thursday of the marginalia” – in the Art gallery – Smolian

 

470(4th of July) The fifth Discussion on theme “Prison and Society” was carried out yesterday in the Rhodopa hall of Art gallery – Smolian. Part in the forum took the District governor of Smolian Municipality Petar Fidanov and representatives of all institutions from Smolian engaged with the prisoners and ex-prisoners in their activity – District administration, Directorate “Labor market”, Regional prosecution, District and Regional court, Smolian Municipality, District Directorate “Execution of penalties”, Directorate “Social assistance”, Prison community – Smolian, LCPJD, journalists.
From 18.00 am in Hall №3 of the Art gallery the photo exhibition “Thursday of the marginalia” was presented and enjoyed big interest from the local public. After Sofia (“Shipka” 6), Pazardjik, Plovdiv and Kardjali, Smolian is the fifth town in which the exhibition is presented. The photographers Georgi Georgiev, Veneta Zaharieva, Arslan Ahmedov and Yavor Vasilev presented the life in Sofia prison.
The discussion and the photo exhibition are part of Crime Prevention Fund – IGA and ATERA Design LTD’s project “Thursday of the marginalia” which is implemented with the financial support of MATRA KAP Program of the Dutch Embassy and with the cooperation of Sofia central prison.

 “Prison and society” in Kardjali

 

463The fourth discussion on theme “Prison and the society” was carried out on 9th of June in the hall of Community center “Obedinenie” in Kardjali. Participation took representatives of institutions from Kardjali Municipality which are relevant to prisoners and ex-prisoners – District Department “Execution of penalties”, Regional Directorate “Social assistance”, Directorate “Labor bureau”, Regional Police Department, LCPJD, Municipality council, Kardjali Municipality and others. At 6.00 PM in Art gallery “Stanka Dimitrova” a photo exhibition “Thursday of the marginalia” was opened. The discussion and the photo exhibition are part from Crime Prevention Fund – IGA and ATERA Design LTD project – “Thursday of the marginalia” which is implemented with the financial support of MATRA KAP Programme of the Dutch Embassy and with the cooperation of Sofia Central Prison.

 

Discussion “The prison and the society” gathered the institutions in Plovdiv

 

451Discussion on theme “Prison and society” was carried out on 9th of May in the VIP hall of Plovdiv Municipality. Participation in it took more than 50 people, representatives of all institutions from District Plovdiv relevant to prisoners and ex-prisoners – Deputy Mayors of Plovdiv Municipality Krasimir Angelov and Dimitar Tsvetkov, the Head of the prison – Nikola Karparov, Commissar Angel Rangelov – Chairman of District Police Directorate, the Directors of Labor Bureau, Directorate “Social Assistance”, judges from all courts in city of Plovdiv – Court of Appeal, District Court, Regional Court, Administrative Court and Military Court, Regional Prosecution, representatives of Municipality administration, District Department “Execution of penalties”, Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarki”, Municipal councilors etc.
At 18.00 am in the City art gallery – Plovdiv the photo exhibition “Thursday of the Marginalia” was opened. Plovdiv is the third city in which the exhibition is presented after Sofia (“Shipka” 6) and Pazardjik (Art gallery “Stanislav Dospevski”). The discussion and the photo exhibition are part of the project of Crime Prevention Fund – IGA and ATERA Design LTD “Thursday of the Marginalia”, which is implemented with the financial support of MATRA KAP Programme of the Dutch Embassy and with the cooperation of Sofia Central Prison.
The events in Plovdiv were implemented thanks to the exceptional cooperation of Plovdiv Municipality, District Department “Execution of penalties” and the City art gallery.

 

Thursday of the marginalia – in Pazardjik

 

440(25 April) Discussion on theme “Prison and Society” was carried out yesterday in the Conference hall of the Regional agency for economic development and CEIBG. To participate in the event were invited representatives of all institution in District Pazardjik relevant to prisoners and ex-prisoners. In the discussion participated Angel Cholakov – District Governor of District Pazardjik, Commissioner Emil Ganchev – Director of District Directorate “Police”, Veselin Kotsev – Director of Pazardjik prison, Maria Taneva – Director of Directorate “Social assistance”, representatives of District probation service, District investigation service, the administration of the local mediator, Child protection office etc. At 6.00 PM in the City art gallery “Stanislav Dospevski” the photo exhibition “Thursday of the marginalia” was opened. Dimitar Rusinov – Program Director of Fund – IGA presented the project and the photographer Georgi Georgiev – the concept of the exhibition. It is organized together with Pazardjik Municipality and will be open until 7th of May and after that will be exhibit in City art gallery – Plovdiv.
The discussion and the photo exhibition are a part of the project of Crime Prevention Fund – IGA and ATERA Design LTD “Thursday of the marginalia” which is implemented with the financial support of MATRA KAP Programme of the Dutch Embassy in association with Sofia Central prison.

Exhibition on project of Fund - IGA – on “Shipka” 6

459(14 February) The newest project of Fund – IGA “Thursday of the Marginalia” started with performance and exhibition. It is implemented common with ATERA Design LTD – Sofia and Sofia central prison.
On 7 February from 17.00 am in Sofia prison was presented performance and today in Sofia an exhibition with the same name – “Thursday of the Marginalia” was opened. Four photographs exhibited over 60 photos in the exhibition hall of “Shipka” 6, which tells about the life behind the prison walls. For the opening of the exhibition came the Ambassador of Netherlands His Excellency Wilem van Ee, representatives of institutions, the nongovernmental sector, representatives of the art-community and a lot of media.
The aim of the project is to improve the information and the sensibility regarding the life of the prisoners and to provoke public participation with a view their return in the society.
The exhibition will be exhibit in 5 more towns from the country (including Pazardjik) and public discussions on the theme will be organized common with it. Wide dissemination of information, publishing of promotional materials as well as establishment of partnerships with the media is also foreseen. The project is financially supported by MATRA KAP Programme of the Dutch Embassy.
