Drug use and sexual abuse
Research, exchange of good practice, training to prevent violence on drug addicts women

Main aim: The project aims to contribute for the decrease of the sexual violence against drug addicted women, by awareness raising of the topic, collecting data, research and information concerning the connection between the drug use and the sexual abuse, promoting and exchange of good practices and experience in prevention work in regard to the drug abusers and support to the victims; designing and testing of educational materials which are going to be used by social workers, working on violence prevention on drug addict women.
Expected results:
- Existing data, research, studies and carrying out of interviews with 150 drug addict women and 40 scientists, social workers, specialists in psych-social trauma, law enforcement officers will be carried to analyse links between drug use and violence;
- On the questionnaire bases sent towards 60 professional institutions in the countries of partner organizations countries a review about their practice, experience and suggestions will be implemented in regard to the coordination and cooperation between addiction aid and the protection against sexual violence;
- A web-based community for exchange of information, good practices and materials will be established;
- An awareness campaign will be carried out among drug users in the city of Naples and the cities of the partner organizations. The educational packages of the instrument for violence prevention will be tested among the risk groups;
- Counseling meeting will be held also leaflet and other info materials will distributed about 300 women with drug problems, living without shelter (homeless) or staying in prison or in disadvantage families;
- Four seminars will be carried out aiming to train 40 social and health workers, teachers, law enforcement officers on the theme how to recognize and prevent violence on drug addicted women. An Program for education of people from the same group will be also developed.

 Training and Services center – partner in international project with the participation of 5 countries

464Team of the Training and Cervices Center (TSC) which took participation in the last work meeting on project “Study, exchange of good practices, training for prevention of violence on women drug addicts” came back from Prague yesterday. The project is funded by DAPHNE II 2004-2008 Programme of the European Commission and it will continue until 30.04.2009. Leading organization on the project is IL PIOPPO ONLUS – Italy and partners are Training and Cervices Center Association – Pazardjik, Center for Addictology – Medical University of Prague, Czech Republic, PYXIDA – Drug Abuse Prevention CenterGreece, and Forensic Laboratory Services – Malta National Laboratory.
National studies carried out in the five countries on the theme based on the questionnaires among drug using women, social workers, specialists in psycho-social trauma and police officers were presented on the work meeting. The aim of the study is to analyze the links between the drug abuse and violence. Training and Services Center was presented by Dimitar Rusinov – Chairman of the Managing Board of the organization and Marina Manolcheva – part of the project experts team.

 IGA on International work meeting in Naples 

455Marina Manolcheva – Chairperson of the Managing Board of Fund – IGA and Dimitar Rusinov – Program Director arrived in Italy today. In Naples they will participate in International work meeting on project “Drug use and sexual abuse – research, exchange of good practice, training to prevent violence on drug addicts women”, which is funded by DAPHNE Programme of the European commission. The project aim is to contribute for the prevention of violence on drug addicts women through increasing the information, researches, exchange of good practice and experience concerning prevention activities, drawing and testing of educational materials to be used by the social workers and the public environment for combating the violence on drug addicts women. The organizations – partners on the project will be presented on the meeting in Naples and the activities for the first year from the project implementation will be planed. In the plan of the work meeting there is provision for discussion and adoption of common methodology as well as the presentation of the researches, web site project and informational packages. The project includes representatives of civil organizations from Italy, Germany, Bulgaria and Czech Republic and will be implemented for two years. IGA is the only organization from Bulgaria involved in the project.
