100 children from Nova Mahala passed through the “To prevent ourselves from drugs and violence” program

Children demonstrated their knowledge regarding the drug substances and the harm from them, the reasons for drug abuse, the ways for recognize drug users and also what should their reactions towards coevals using alcohol, psychoactive and narcotic substances. These are 100 children from Nova Mahala village, Municipality of Batak that passed through the program “To prevent ourselves from drugs and violence” in the frames of the project. During the passed year “Cyril and Methodius” High School - Nova Mahala organized school celebration which marked the finalization of the ”To prevent ourselves from drugs and violence” project. It was implemented in the frames of the national program - “The school – territory of the students” module “Development of the extracurricular activities” in partnership with Crime prevention fund – IGA.
To get acquainted with the outcomes from the project, in the school came the chairman of the Municipal council – Batak, the mayor of the Village Ahmed Hadjiiski, the chief of the “Education” Department in Batak Municiplaity Katia Valchinova, directors from school establishments and many other guests. For them, the students that have passed the program prepared powerpoint presentation for he achieved results. Before the guests, the principal of the school Mrs. Gergana Kapincheva expressed her satisfaction with the project implementation and the results achieved.

Project “To prevent ourselves from the drugs and the violence” started in the school in Nova Mahala

(12th of November) At the end of the last week in the office of Fund – IGA training for teachers on project “To prevent from the drugs and the violence” was carried out. The project is been implemented from the High school “Cyril and Methodius” - Nova Mahala, Municipality of Batak in partnership with Crime Prevention Fund - IGA. It is prepared in the frames of the national program “The school - territory of the students”, module “Development of the extracurricular activity” and already received funds for its implementation. The project foresees the adoption of the program “To prevent ourselves from the drugs and the violence” in the High school - Nova Mahala, which is after the most popular American program with similar direction D.A.R.E. The program provides good opportunities for raising the awareness concerning the harmful consequences from the drug misuse, creation of positive influence regarding the will not to use drugs and forming of mature and responsible behavior within the children and the teenagers. The program is already successfully adopted in 4 schools thanks to Fund - IGA: during the year of 2002nd - in Pazardjik and during 2005th - in city of Plovdiv.
Goal of the project is to create in the pupils skills and habits to identify and overcome the pressure and forcing to drug use as well as the negative factors and violence acts in the school area. In frames of the project a multidisciplinary teams will be also involved, supporting the pedagogical practice which are going to lead the program for work with children “To prevent ourselves from the drugs and the violence”.
The project aims also to improve the knowledge of the participants about the drugs and the harms from the drug using, the reasons for the abuse and recognizing the drug using people. They have to realize as for their own attitude regarding the drug use, as well as the attitude towards their class mates that uses alcohol and drugs. After the end of the project the children and the juveniles not only must show increased knowledge about their own assessment but also to acquire different models of healthy and responsible behavior, the skill no refuse and problem solving.
Participants in the project are going to be 100 children from 5th and 6th grade. They are in the age that refers to the puberty – the will for self affirmation and slight falling under the pressure of adults and the „role models”.
Target group on the project, although with a little bit more specific role are also teachers and psychologists.
