Training of teachers on program for prevention of the drug and alcohol abuse

In the end of the last year a training of group of teachers from High school of foreign languages - Pleven was carried out targeting applying and leading of preventive program among students from the junior class. The group included total of 10 participants, teachers from the High school and one social worker from Association “Centre Open door”.
The aim of the training was to prepare the participants to work as a future trainers on program “To prevent ourselves from the drugs and the violence”- enriching the knowledge of the teachers about the drugs subsistence, the reasons for drug and alcohol abuse among the children as well as the harms from such behavior, acquaintance with different approaches of teaching, studying of teachers’ own attitude concerning the drug misuse and also their motivation for participation as trainers in the program.
The essential part from the program repeated the themes on which the guidance for carrying out of the program with students was organized including five main themes: “Attention - drugs!”; “Why the children use / don’t use drugs - factors and premises”; “Assertive behavior - self-confidence, stress and guilt”; “Decision making and solving of problems”; “Approaches and methods of training”.
The participants shared that the problem of drug misuse in Pleven city is urgent issue as the statistic shows high percentage of drug using people. The mutual opinion shown that the program will be very useful for the children from the primary and also from for the junior class of training. In teachers’ opinion there is a myth that the students from the junior class are introduced with the types of drugs and the consequences from its using.
In the end of the training a schedule for carrying out of the current supervisions aiming professional support of the trainers was negotiated and jointly prepared. The program is implemented in the frames of project “To prevent ourselves from the drugs and the violence” on National program “The school - territory of the students”, module “Development of the extracurricular activity”. Project partner of the High school of foreign languages in Pleven is Association “Training and services center” - Pazardjik.
