Up-medical program for injection drug misused persons on the territory of Pazardjik Municipality

Sources of funding:

National Program “Prevention and control of HIV/AIDS” implemented by Ministry of Health with the financial support of Global Fund for Prevention of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria

Main goal:

Supporting of low level of dissemination of HIV/AIDS of the intravenous drug addicted in Pazardjik region

Objectives:

- Reducing of the risk injection behavior; - Reducing of the risk sexual behavior; - Decreasing of the dissemination of the sexual and blood illnesses; - Decreasing of the dissemination of Hepatitis В and С; - Early discovering and directing to medical treatment of the cases with HIV infection; - Development of effective programs for prevention of HIV infection on municipal level; - Development of the professional capacity on municipal level for planning and implementation of sustainable programs for prevention of HIV infection.

Expected results:

- Established contacts with 60-70% of intravenous drug addicted in the Pazardjik region; - 50 % increasing of the number of intravenous drug addicted who define correct the ways for prevention of HIV infection for sexual and injection ways; - 70 % increasing of the number of intravenous drug addicted who do not use common injections; - 30 % of the intravenous drug addicted are tested for HIV infection, sexual infections and Hepatitis В and С; - Dissemination of informational and training materials; - 10-20% of persons who are directed to Medical Treatment Services;

Anti AIDS campaign for St. Valentine

365Regarding the14th of February – the Day of the people in love, the teams of Fund – IGA, working on the components on Program “Prevention and control of HIV/AIDS”, carried out an anti AIDS campaign. Objects of the campaign were as the clients of the programs – drug injection addicts and prostituting men and women, as well as representatives of the vast public – employees of local companies, departments etc. Informational materials and about 2000 contraceptive supplies were disseminated.
Program “Prevention and control of HIV/AIDS” is financed from the Global Fund and its been implemented by Ministry of Healthcare.

Training for the K4 and K6 teams under the “Prevention and control of HIV/AIDS” Program

259On October 10th and 11th the K4 and K6 teams from Regional Fund – IGA took part in a seminar “Training for field work within the implementation of the second phase of the second generation pandemic control during 2005”. At the seminar the idea of the second generation of pandemic control within the program “Prevention and control of HIV/AIDS”, the protocol for the implementation of the monitoring and the methods of field work were discussed together with RI – PCPH, the general principles of making a standardized interview were defined etc. The questionnaires for behavior inquiry intended for intravenous drug addicts and prostituting men and women were discussed and tested in role playing games in the final part of the training.

Third Seminar on Monitoring and Evaluation of Activities on Component 4

124ThirdØ seminar on monitoring and evaluation of activities for the year 2004 of the non-governmental organizations, sub-receivers on Component 4 for outreach work in restricting health damages among intravenous drug users, was held from 26th to 28th of April. Program consultants, coordinators and outreach workers from Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Kyustendil, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Plovdiv, Ruse, Sofia participated in the seminar. Survey of the activities implementation was done, as well as the outline of the difficulties and successes in work of organizations, working on Component 4-“Maintenance of Low Level of HIV Distribution Among Intravenous Drug Users” There was also a presentation of activity schedule on Component 4 for the year 2005, as well as the forthcoming program events. Particular attention was paid to the presentation of Pazardzhik outreach workers.
