Project:”“Demonstration model of Community Service”

Source of Funding: Democracy Commission to the USA Embassy in Bulgaria
Main objectives: Support of the reform in the Penalty execution system in Bulgaria through wide popularize of the alternative sanction and measures by demonstrational models of enforce of free labor in public benefit.
Tasks of the project:
- To unify the judges to use wide the measure “Free labor in public benefit”;
- To be represent of the probation services developing effective model for realize of the measure by places;
- To be engage the local authorities in the activities on organization the execution of the measure;
- To be improve the public adjustments through wide popularize of the advantages from the free labor in public benefit;
- The media to stand active participant in the popularization of the public sanctions and measures.
The project response of the recommendations to Bulgaria for reform in the sphere of the court system in conformity whit the European standards. In its base are the last changes in the Criminal code and the Law for penalty execution, as well as the building of probation system in the country started in 2005 y.
The project response of the need from information for free labor in public benefit as a resource for decreasing of the crime; practice models and know how in its enforcing; effective training methods and materials; wide media response for the effects from the enforce of free labor in public benefit.
Results:
- Translation and sound-recording of short 20-minutes long documentary delivered by the probation department of England and Wails;
- Chosen 5 demonstration projects;
- Carried out 5 information days with 170 participants;
- Implemented 5 demonstration projects;
- Carried out 6 press-conferences with about 150 participants;
- Prepared promotion boards, printed posters and 200 information folders.
- Printed out „Manual for putting in community service “;
- 20 minutes long documentary was shot about the promotion of the communal service;
- CD version of the documentary and manual.
