International Community Justice Award 2004

Regional Fund - IGA, Pazardjik won an international award!
Personally Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal bestowed the award to the winners!

 

On 29.01.2004, Regional Fund - IGA was the only non-government organization that won the prestigious International Community Justice Award 2004.

Eithne Wallis, Director General of National Probation Service for England and Wales bestowed an additional cash prize - a sum of 1423 EUR to the winners.

The award was adjudged to Regional Fund - IGA because of the following particular achievements:

-Establishing a pilot probation center in Pazardjik with the support of British Council, Sofia and British Department for International Development;

-Training the first 20 probation officers;

-Getting the public in Bulgaria acquainted with the probation issues;

-and Developing a strategy for introduction of probation in the country.

The international community justice awards are organized by the National Probation Service for England and Wales.


There were three categories, in which winners were selected:

1. Individual awards

2. Organizational awards, and

3. Pioneer awards

This is a special award to recognize a new or emerging community-based justice service that aims to reduce crime by constructive work with offenders - regardless of its stage of development. The winner could be an individual or an organization that has made a difference to the evolution of community justice in their own country or internationally

Personally Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal (Prince Charles Sister - Princess Anna) bestowed a specially commissioned glass award to Mr. Dimitar Rusinov, Project Manager and Mrs. Marina Manolcheva, Executive Director.

Regional Fund - IGA has been selected as a finalist in the "Pioneer" Category from a very large field of entrants - 40 rivals (government and non-government organizations). Regional Fund - IGA was the only awarded non-government organization at the award ceremony "International Community Justice Awards 2004".

The ceremony took place in Queen Elizabeth II Conference Center, London. There were more than 1000 delegates and guests from 38 countries from all continents.

A commission of six members (outstanding professors and professionals - practicians) from United Kingdom, Denmark, Czech Republic, USA and New Zealand selected the nominees from 38 countries.

The ceremony was followed by Evening Reception at the Locarno Rooms, Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair (10 Downing Street). The reception was attended by the winners.
